Preventive Safety

Advanced technology designed to support safer driving.

To help prevent accidents before they happen, SUBARU has been developing driver assistance systems using stereo cameras and radar for more than 30 years.

SUBARU’s advanced safety technologies, including EyeSight, are designed to help reduce the risk of accidents caused by driver error such as distraction or drowsiness, while also easing driver workload on long journeys when fatigue can build up.

From city streets to highways, these systems support safer driving in a wide range of situations and help protect what matters most.

EyeSight: A second pair of eyes

EyeSight is SUBARU’s driver assistance system that uses stereo cameras to help support safer driving.

The cameras measure the distance between the vehicle and surrounding objects, and can recognise vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists, and lane markings. Using this information, the software determines what action is needed and supports the driver accordingly. On the latest models, a wide-angle monocular camera is added to improve safety performance at intersections where pedestrians and cyclists are present.

From city streets to highways, EyeSight helps you drive with greater confidence.

Collision Avoidance Support

EyeSight offers a range of functions designed to help drivers avoid collisions. Pre-Collision Braking alerts the driver when a collision risk is detected, and can automatically apply the brakes to slow the vehicle or bring it to a stop if needed. EyeSight also includes Reverse Automatic Braking, which helps avoid contact with obstacles when reversing, and Pre-Collision Throttle Management, which helps reduce the risk of unintended acceleration. These features support safer driving at intersections and when pulling out of parking spaces.

Helping Reduce Driver Fatigue

A range of devices, including stereo cameras, help monitor driving conditions and support the driver for safer travel. Adaptive Cruise Control can follow the vehicle ahead across a wide range of speeds, reducing driver workload in various situations—from stop-and-go traffic to steady highway cruising. The system can assist with steering if the vehicle begins to drift out of its lane, while audible alerts and on-screen warnings notify the driver if swaying or lane departure is detected. Together, these features help reduce fatigue on long drives and in heavy traffic.

Support for Safer Driving

Advanced driver assistance technologies help you stay more aware of what’s happening around your vehicle.

SUBARU Rear Vehicle Detection helps support safer lane changes by spotting vehicles approaching from behind in adjacent lanes, then warning you with the LED door-mirror indicators and an audible alert. If you begin to drift out of your lane, or attempt to change lanes when another vehicle is too close, Emergency Lane Keep Assist can provide steering support to help keep you on track.

Together, these features help you drive with greater confidence.

Enhanced Visibility Around the Vehicle

SUBARU vehicles offer helpful features that improve visibility in everyday driving. The Smart Rear View Mirror displays the image from a rear-mounted camera in the interior mirror, making it easier to check behind—even when rear seat passengers, luggage, or poor weather reduce visibility. The Digital Multi-View Monitor also helps you see areas that are harder to spot from the driver’s seat, supporting safer manoeuvring when parking or pulling close to the kerb. Together, these features help you drive with greater peace of mind.

Technology That Monitors the Driver

SUBARU vehicles feature a range of technologies designed to help monitor and support the driver. The Driver Monitoring System uses a camera to recognise the driver’s face and provides audible and on-screen alerts if it detects drowsiness or inattentiveness. If the system detects a serious problem—such as the driver becoming unresponsive—the Emergency Driving Stop System automatically slows the vehicle to a stop, warns surrounding traffic, and unlocks the doors. Together, these features add an extra layer of reassurance while driving.
