The automotive industry is undergoing a period of major transformation, driven by the rapid adoption of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and the growth of emerging manufacturers, including companies from outside the automotive sector. Here, we introduce how SUBARU plans to respond to these changes.
Carbon Neutrality and Electrification Initiatives
SUBARU is committed to realising a decarbonised society, aiming to reduce CO₂ emissions by over 90% (compared to 2010 levels) on a Well-to-Wheel basis by 2050. To achieve this goal, all SUBARU vehicles will feature electrification technologies by the early 2030s. Believing hybrid vehicles play a vital role in the transition to BEVs, SUBARU has developed its own strong hybrid system, introduced in the Forester and Crosstrek in 2024. To offer customers a variety of choices, SUBARU will continue to provide a diverse range of ICE models.
In terms of BEV development, SUBARU is exploring multiple approaches, from in-house initiatives to alliance-based collaborations. As an initial step, four BEV models scheduled for introduction by the end of 2026 are being jointly developed with Toyota Motor Corporation. The Solterra, the first of these jointly developed BEVs, was unveiled in November 2021. The Trailseeker, which combines the driving performance unique to BEVs with the practicality expected of a crossover utility vehicle, was announced in April 2025. Furthermore, in July 2025, the Uncharted, a compact BEV that delivers both exceptional drivability and everyday usability, was revealed.
Initiatives Toward Achieving Zero Fatal Traffic Accidents* by 2030
SUBARU is committed to protecting human lives and is working toward the goal of achieving zero fatal traffic accidents* by 2030. By pursuing vehicle safety performance from every possible perspective, SUBARU will further strengthen the four existing areas of safety—“Primary Safety,” “Active Safety,” “Preventive Safety,” and “Passive Safety”—while also adding “Connected Safety.”
In the field of preventive safety, SUBARU is focusing on developing technologies that integrate AI with EyeSight. Moreover, in the field of passive safety, SUBARU is advancing specific measures to protect not only vehicle occupants, but also pedestrians and cyclists.
Even in the era of electrification, SUBARU will continue to evolve its safety technologies that deliver both Enjoyment and Peace of Mind, while pursuing the unique qualities that define SUBARU.
